Marking the culmination of a vibrant four-day event, the 2024 Tianfu Book Fair concluded today. This year's exhibition has been luring over 58 million participants to immerse themselves in the literary and cultural extravaganza, both in person and through virtual platforms. The sales of books and a plethora of cultural and creative products have soared, culminating in an extraordinary total of 105 million yuan.
The Tianfu Book Fair has convened an assemblage of over thirty domestic publishing and media groups, in addition to garnering more than five hundred publishing and distribution establishments, over six hundred library distribution institutions, along with over three hundred cultural and creative enterprises. The exhibition has featured a staggering display and sales of over 800,000 book varieties, while simultaneously orchestrating over one thousand multifaceted cultural activities. Highlighting the rich tapestry of events, prominent features include the Sichuan promotional conference for "Interpretations of Poems Cited by Xi Jinping;" the inaugural unveiling of the tome titled "Symbiosis and Shared Prosperity: China and the World in the Contemporary Era"; the convocation of the 5th “Belt and Road” Initiative Publishing Cooperation Forum; and the convening of the 3rd China Publishing Innovation and Development Seminar themed "Co-construction, Sharing and Joint Cultivation." Collectively, the myriad events have coalesced into a cultural gala characterized by its exuberant festivity, people-oriented spirit, and ethos of intercultural dialogue and mutual learning—a true celebration that reverberates throughout various social sectors.
Beyond diverse offerings, the exhibition has ignited an unprecedented level of popularity. Events such as the dialogue on Sichuan literature featuring distinguished authors A Lai, Xu Zechen, and Luo Weizhang, as well as the book sharing session for "The Super Tank in Your Pocket," have been met with overwhelming enthusiasm, drawing massive crowds to the scene. Cultural experience spaces, such as the "Silk Capital Academy" and "Flower City Academy" in Nanchong and Panzhihua have successfully cultivated unique local cultural experiences, winning widespread acclaim among their respective communities. For the first time, the main exhibition hall extended closing hours until 8 PM, accommodating thousands of residents eager to explore the exhibits. This extension added a novel layer of cultural enjoyment to Chengdu’s bustling nightlife, enhancing the city's reputation as a hub of culture and leisure.
In addition, this year's book exhibition has significantly bolstered cultural consumption through the distribution of coupons for books, stimulating an economic boost exceeding 18 million yuan. The inaugural co-organized library distribution and construction exhibition has achieved a striking milestone, with selections amounting to a remarkable 300 million yuan in code value, more than doubling the figure from the previous year. Moreover, in a pioneering move, the exhibition has, for the first time, established overseas sub-venues in six countries, including Italy and Panama, orchestrating over thirty events designed to immerse participants in traditional Chinese culture. This initiative has effectively expanded the international network of the Tianfu Book Fair, cultivating a vibrant "circle of friends" on the global arena.
