Since its inception in 2019, the Tianfu Book Fair has successfully hosted five editions, emerging as a vibrant cultural symbol of Sichuan Province. It has become a vital platform for industry exchanges, a beloved event for readers, and a key initiative in the provincial government’s efforts to transform Sichuan into a cultural powerhouse in the new era. On September 11, the 30-day countdown ceremony for the 2024 Tianfu Book Fair was held in Chengdu. This event marks the final stretch of preparations for this grand publishing industry gathering and reading festival, which will be held right in the backyard of Sichuan residents.
The 2024 Tianfu Book Fair will center on an in-depth study and implementation of the principles set forth by the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Building on the successes of previous fairs, this year’s event aims to elevate reader services, push the boundaries of innovation, raise exhibition standards, and showcase Sichuan’s cultural prowess. The 2024 Tianfu Book Fair will feature several key enhancements:
Expanded Scale: The fair is casting a wider net this year, inviting publishing houses from both home and abroad. It expects to attract over 500 exhibitors, including China’s top publishing houses. The exhibition space has grown significantly, from last year’s 22,000 square meters to 32,000 square meters, allowing for a broader array of quality books to be showcased and sold.
Innovative Offerings: This year introduces several firsts. The fair will debut the National Publication Library Distribution and Construction Exhibition, unveil a pavilion dedicated to high-quality publishing and creative products, and feature an “International Bookstore” section with foreign language titles. A night book market will also be a new addition. Furthermore, the fair has expanded its periodicals and gaming/anime sections, catering to visitors’ evolving interests and enriching the overall experience.
Public-Friendly Initiatives: The fair remains committed to public engagement with a range of accessible activities. Cultural benefit vouchers will be distributed widely, and events such as book purchases with complimentary gifts, rural book donation drives, and mobile book sales will be organized. The Chengdu Century City New International Convention and Exhibition Center will serve as the main venue for the fair. The exhibition space will be divided into several distinct zones, including: a showcase for literature on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, themed publishing sections, areas dedicated to permanent and annual guests of honor, a Sichuan publishing pavilion, exhibits from major publishing conglomerates and independent houses, a dedicated area for the International Bookstore, a marketplace for cultural and creative products, and a dynamic gaming and anime sector. The fair will highlight key publications across various categories, such as seminal works on the CPC’s innovative theories, literature on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, showcases of Sichuan’s recent achievements in the publishing industry, a selection of outstanding publications from across China, exemplary cultural and creative products from the publishing industry, quality offerings from the anime and gaming industries, and a diverse range of high-quality imported literary works.
